On Monday, April 26, 1982, the Foundation’s prize for Geneva was awarded to Messrs. Max Petitpierre, Friedrich T. Wahlen, Willy Spühler and Pierre Graber, former Presidents of the Confederation, during a ceremony at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. Pierre Aubert, Vice President of the Federal Council, Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the cantonal and administrative authorities of Geneva, and over 600 guests.

During their speeches, Mr. Marcel Naville, President of the Foundation for Geneva, Mr. Pierre Graber, Vice-President of the Federal Council, Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Robert Ducret, President of the State Council of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, praised the action of these men to enhance, strengthen and extend the international vocation of Geneva. Professor Jacques Freymond, one of the most qualified analysts of Swiss foreign policy, then painted a picture of nearly 40 years of Swiss presence on the international political scene, in order to pay tribute to these 4 presidents of the Confederation from 1944 to 1978.

A reception was offered after the ceremony by the State Council of the Republic and Canton of Geneva and the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva.
