In 2019, the Foundation Board decided to reward Philippe Burrin, director of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), with the Fondation pour Geneve prize for his exceptional contribution to International Geneva in the academic domain.

In 1988, Philippe Burrin began as a professor of history and international relations at the Graduate Institute of International Studies (HEI). It was not until 2004 that he ascended to position of director. In 2008, Burrin participated in the merging of the institution with the Graduate Institute of Development Studies (IUED). He also supervised the creation of the Campus de la Paix, as well as the construction of the Maison de la Paix and two student residencies.

Under his leadership, the new institution IHEID has grown significantly, thanks to the development of public-private partnerships, and has consolidated its position as an academic center of excellence in Switzerland and internationally.
