Laureate 2023
Jean-Pierre Greff

Prize 2023 awarded to Jean-Pierre Greff, Director of the HEAD-Genève between 2004 and 2022

Monday 3 April 2023 | 6:30pm, Victoria Hall, Geneva

The Fondation pour Genève has awarded its 2023 Prize to Mr. Jean-Pierre Greff, Director of the HEAD-Genève between 2004 and 2022, to thank him for his exceptional commitment to the artistic influence of Geneva on a local and international scale.

The result of the merger between the Ecole supérieure des beaux-arts and the Haute école d’arts appliqués, two Geneva institutions that are more than two hundred years old, the Haute École d’Art et de Design de Genève (HEAD-Genève) has become an international reference among European art schools under his direction. The school has also established itself as a key player in Geneva’s economic and cultural life, as demonstrated by its annual fashion show, developing numerous partnerships with companies, international organizations, and cultural institutions. With its new Campus inaugurated in July 2022, it is now firmly established in the City.

A new chapter is now opening for Jean-Pierre Greff, who continues his commitment to art in all its forms in Geneva. President of the Plaza Foundation since 2019, he is actively involved in the project to revive the Plaza cinema, an emblematic Geneva landmark. The renovations of this listed historic building will be completed in 2025 and will unveil a Center dedicated to the 7th art and architecture.

Jean-Pierre Greff is an art and design historian. After having taught for ten years in several art schools and universities in France, he directed the Haute école des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg, before taking over the reins of the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Genève in 2004. He then orchestrated its merger with the Haute école d’arts appliqués, thus giving birth to the HEAD-Genève.
