"Pleasant, light and free flowing", are the rather agreeable terms used by Count Jean-Charles de Laizer - a gentleman from the Auvergne area of France, fleeing the Revolution in 1789 - to describe Evian water, flowing from the Cachat Spring, when he discovered the beneficial effects it had on his kidney stones while staying in this town in Chablais.These words also provide a perfect description of the prevalent mood on this sunny, fresh September 27, 2010. We were nearly 80 women (and two male participants gallantly accompanying us) who met up at the crack of dawn to joyfully travel together from Geneva to Evian in two coaches.

Director-General Pascal Lamy, in a speech to the Diplomatic Club of Geneva on 15 March 2010, said that "today, globalization has become a major challenge to our democracies, and our systems of governance must confront this challenge". He said the economic crisis has accelerated the transformation of global governance into what he called the "triangle of coherence", consisting of the G20, the intergovernmental organizations, and the United Nations.
